The new One Black Voice CD/DVD, “Sankofa: A Journey Through Afrika Part II,” is an epic, once-in-a-lifetime special project featuring a 20-track music CD and a 17-video DVD by one man – Kofi Jacque. Eight years in the making off and on, “Sankofa” captures the aural, visual and spiritual experiences of one artist’s pilgrimage to his ancestral home of Afrika.
“Sankofa” is an eclectic mix of world, African, R&B, folk, Caribbean, blues, traditional music and more, with stories and lessons to match.
“Sankofa” is a West African term meaning, “it is not taboo to go back and fetch it,” return to your roots – heritage, history and culture – that the Maafa separated from black people. The project is written, arranged, performed and produced by One Black Voice, aka Kofi, and features production from Houston-based entertainment mogul Zin, and photography and videography from Syracuse-based and Philadelphia-born Ellen M. Blalock, an award-winning artist.
